Upakarma is a Sanskrit word (Upa + Karma). Upakarma means a ritual performed before beginning the Vedic studies. Upa also refers to nearness or close touch with Upanishads (Vedas). On the day of Upakarma, Yagnopaveetham (sacred thread) is changed following the proper rituals offering prayers to rishis. Upakarma generally falls on the purnima (full moon day) of Sravana month.
In Yoga Vidya Gurukulam, Uttarkashi, Swamiji performed Ganga Puja on this auspicious day. Members of Yoga Vidya Gurukulam participated in this puja and received blessings from mother Ganga. Upakarma rituals were performed in the Gurukulam under the guidance of Swamiji. Later, Swamiji visited the Kashi Vishwanath temple in Uttarkashi and performed Puja to Lord Kashi Vishwanath. Members of Gurukulam accompanied Swamiji to the temple and received blessings from Lord Kashi Vishwanath.
